Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies
The beauty of this recipe is you can make it as a rolled cookie
or as a drop cookie. Just decrease the flour for the drop cookie.

Yield: 6 dozen cookies

• 3 cups all-purpose flour (rolled cookies)
OR
• 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (drop cookies)
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon salt

• 1 cup shortening
• 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
• 2 eggs
• 4 teaspoons milk
• 2 teaspoons vanilla

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Sift together flour, pwder, salt, soda and sugar. Cut in shortening until course. Blend in egg, milk and vanilla. Roll out on powdered sugared board. Cut with cookie cutters; place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for almost 8 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets to a cooling rack. Cool completely. Decorate as desired.

Use 1/2 cup less flour for drop cookiesl For drop cookies, use 1 tablespoon dough and roll into a ball. Then dip one side in a colored sugar and place sugar side up on cookie sheets. Bake for almost eight minutes as above.
